Bettie Newman. Kitchen. March 09th , 2018.
The kitchen is like any other room but needs the most attention. You can either make a simple streamlined kitchen with everything planned for and very practical in its layout, or indulge in some art décor and decorate it. Markets are filled with options to help make it more personal. Before starting off on the renovation program, it's important to do some field work. Visit the kitchens of some of the houses around to get as many ideas as you can. It helps to know how others have gone about it.
The first thing I did was to look for some place in my kitchen where I could install a little storage rack. I found a little poorly-designed corner in the kitchen. I didn't want to take that counter space up though; I hung a four-tier rack from the ceiling with hooks. In the rack, I stock my glasses, my coffee mugs, a few articles of canned food, potatoes and onions. I have always been a believer in how pots and pans, tea cups and coffee mugs, anything within an ear or a handle, belongs on a hook. I knew that if I began to stock my pots and pans and the meager shelf space I had (all 6 feet of them), I would end up with no space for anything else. So everything that could be hung was hung on the wall. I got loads of those little hooks that are set in to a plastic backing and double-sided tape. I hung these all over the kitchen walls and all my pots and pans were right away off my hands.
Taking a page from clothing fashions, kitchen designs come and go with the passing of time. What was once trendy and avant-garde can just as quickly become yesterday's news; or worse, fashion faux pas. While there are many kitchen design ideas and styles that have surfaced over the years, several have remained as popular themes that have a strong influence in the aesthetic of the entire home. There are several basic themes, each with their corresponding styles. Below are the major ones:
If you find it too expensive to remodel your kitchen, just organize it better so that you have enough space for all your appliances. Make space by simply fixing a beautiful wrought iron curtain rod on the wall above your counter. Hang attractive towels from it, and use s-hooks to hang ladles and frequently used pans from it. You will free up shelf space to store utensils that you use only infrequently, such as when you entertain. Free up space on your counter by fixing wall mounted racks. A triangular corner rack is a good idea to use up space in corners that normally get wasted or are inaccessible. This also enables you to keep your counter clean.
It is thus imperative to do one's homework in understanding needs and translating them to practical and logical plans of action. If there is intention to entertain within this room, there is all the more reason to dig deep and invest time with effort for worthy results. Otherwise, a mismatch of user and idea is a sure recipe for a design disaster.
