Kitchen design ideas literally abound as home improvements and makeovers become the norm of modern households. Many realize that indifference or fear of this residential space may be linked to the proverbial Cinderella's glass slipper whereby there is sure to be a kitchen specially designed for the present residents of the house. Although the practice of hand-me-downs may be acceptable for winter and maternity wear, it does not bode well for this home facility. Traditional and conventional concepts conceived decades and generations ago may not match current tastes and lifestyles.
The need for small kitchen designs doesn't necessarily mean that your small kitchen has to be a disappointment. These days everything is getting smaller-phones, home video discs, MP3 players. It doesn't have to be a bad thing. Look at the smaller space available to you as an opportunity to flex your creative muscles. With small kitchens, creativity is definitely needed to get the most out of the available space, but at the same time, it can be more convenient and lead to you spending less time in the kitchen and more in the parts of the house where, perhaps, you'd rather be. In order to make your kitchen really stand out, here are six of the best ideas for maximizing space and efficiency:
If it is continually hot outside, you may prefer to create a kitchen that will also be visually cool - by devising a pale, soothing color scheme. Use flat matt shades of blue and grey with pale painted walls and try to avoid complicated patterns that would upset the sense of calm. It is worth remembering, however, that these decorative schemes need lots of bright clear light, or their coolness tends to become clinical and unwelcoming.
The first thing I did was to look for some place in my kitchen where I could install a little storage rack. I found a little poorly-designed corner in the kitchen. I didn't want to take that counter space up though; I hung a four-tier rack from the ceiling with hooks. In the rack, I stock my glasses, my coffee mugs, a few articles of canned food, potatoes and onions. I have always been a believer in how pots and pans, tea cups and coffee mugs, anything within an ear or a handle, belongs on a hook. I knew that if I began to stock my pots and pans and the meager shelf space I had (all 6 feet of them), I would end up with no space for anything else. So everything that could be hung was hung on the wall. I got loads of those little hooks that are set in to a plastic backing and double-sided tape. I hung these all over the kitchen walls and all my pots and pans were right away off my hands.
The kitchen is like any other room but needs the most attention. You can either make a simple streamlined kitchen with everything planned for and very practical in its layout, or indulge in some art décor and decorate it. Markets are filled with options to help make it more personal. Before starting off on the renovation program, it's important to do some field work. Visit the kitchens of some of the houses around to get as many ideas as you can. It helps to know how others have gone about it.
